On November 8-9, 2022, representatives of the Regional Program of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (hereinafter - UNODC) for Afghanistan and neighboring countries held the 8th meeting of the regional working group on strengthening forensic expertise and drug trafficking, which was attended by representatives of the expert services of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At this meeting, the participants presented information on the activities of the forensic examination bodies of each country, and also voiced problematic issues on the study of substances and equipment of laboratories.
During the meeting, a constructive exchange of views took place on the most pressing issues on the agenda of the meeting, the current state and prospects of cooperation in the field of forensic research and new trends were discussed, as well as issues of legislation regulating the activities of this area were touched upon.
Following the meeting, the participants of the meeting highly appreciated the development of expert activities in the field of drug research in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In addition, within the framework of this Program, the Center for Forensic Examinations of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan was assisted by representatives of UNODC on a gratuitous basis in the transfer of consumables for analytical equipment (gas chromatograph) for the study of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
